Avoid A Zero Pay Claim

On May 20 and 21, 2019, a bizarre Spring storm rolled through south-central Colorado, dropping several inches of snow.  The weight of the snow broke trees all over Colorado Springs.

In response, people were calling their insurance companies and asking them to send adjusters out to inspect their properties for damage.  But is that really the best thing to do?

It's important to know that if you call your insurance company and ask them to send somebody out to inspect your roof or your house, that if there's no damage you still have a claim on your record.  It's called a zero pay claim or a claim without pay.  If there's no damage that needs to be paid for that still affects you and affects your insurance record.  So if you don't have any obvious damage, don't call your insurance company yet.  Call somebody to come inspect your property.  That could be a roofing contractor, or a general contractor.  But have somebody inspect your property before you contact your insurance company to avoid a zero pay claim.
